Claudia Breitschmid (*1983, Aarau) is a visual artist working between photography, print-based processes, moving image, site-responsive installation, and text. Her practice explores how humans and their environments transform one another through research-driven projects that often include collaboration, material experiments, and archival work.
Archive of Entanglement

Archive of Entanglement takes its point of departure from Omey Island, a tidal island off Ireland’s west coast. Plastic fragments washed ashore and collected along the coastline were used to make cyanotypes on translucent cotton fabric.

Exposed in the evening light, the fragments leave deep blue traces, shaped by the folds, tensions and movements of the fabric. The images recall currents or views into the deep sea.

Suspended freely in space, the fabric panels form an installation that shifts as one moves through it. Front and reverse overlap, while the blue traces remain visible through the translucent material. The image extends beyond the individual panels, appearing between layers of fabric and changing with the bodies moving among them.

Plastic travels through rivers and oceans, across coastlines and into bodies. What happens when a material we consider waste no longer remains outside us, but becomes part of the environments we inhabit?
